Examines the critical two-stage process of reflection frequently left out of classroom instruction. Defines understanding, clarifying the differences between it and factual recall. Examines the role of working memory activity in learning and the instructional elements that engage such cognition.

Creativity: Learning’s Complementary Process
Explores the recent discoveries of shared neurological systems between learning and creativity. Examines the role creativity plays in learning, especially in deepening understanding of critical concepts. Surveys the remarkable parallels and differences between learning and creating processes.

The Architecture of Learning: An Overview
Provides a survey of the instructional design model based on neurocognitive research. Explores the relationships of learning, teaching, and assessment. Presents a simulated Architecture of Learning unit and examines several examples of instruction designed on the model.
