Architecture of Learning

Architecture of Learning: Advanced Course

Testimonials: Spring 2011

In what ways has the Architecture of Learning Basic Course energized you, encouraging your own learning, growth, and improvement?

Architecture of Learning has challenged me to grow and stretch my understanding of assessments. Also, it has made me want to be more intentional in coaching.

I put feet to my head knowledge of the terms so I understand them better.

It was an outstanding review for me which will enable me to be a better trainer. It reaffirmed my reason for being here.

The Architecture of Learning course has revolutionized my thinking about learning, teaching, and especially assessment. WHERE was this information when I was learning how to teach?

Woohoo! I love to be reminded of the “why” behind the “what.”

It has allowed me to realize how I can improve as a teacher.

What new ideas have you gained during the Architecture of Learning Advanced Course?

Wow! There are so many. I am excited about making changes in [my summative assessment] to benefit my students.

I have a clearer picture (deeper understanding) of the process…though I have some ground yet to cover.

The use of patterns, core processes, changing the way students process and remember new skills and content have all been new for me and given me a fresh perspective.

Asking for participation from the trainees made the learning more proactive.

The presentations [we] the students gave each other gave me ideas for conveying this information to my teachers at home.

I really was amazed at how difficult it was for me to take the information that I thought I knew and turn around and teach others. It was a real eye opener to me to get prepared well as a trainer.

In what ways have you witnessed Architecture of Learning supporting your organization’s vision, values, and purpose?

Our students need to think, reason, and choose independently, not in response to legalism. This process gives them daily opportunity to grow in this area.

Architecture of Learning supports [our school's] desire to help students aspire to a higher level of thinking.

We want to graduate students who can think even about unfamiliar topics in familiar ways. We want them to transfer learning into real life.

Architecture of Learning supports deeper understanding which supports the biblical values of our school. Students must be able to understand the Bible, its concepts, and its purpose for their lives.

In what ways do you plan to follow through to improve your instruction and your students’ learning?

I will study the information more, read some extra books on brain research. Spend more time in the classroom with students and teachers.

I will definitely know that I need to be very familiar with the course materials myself, put in my own personal experiences, and rehearse my teaching ahead of time in order to be fluent.

Now that I see the bigger picture of Architecture of Learning more clearly I will be much more aware of implementing it in my daily lessons/content.

I need to schedule time within my weekly lesson plans for formative assessment.

Have an Architecture of Learning course for all [our] elementary teachers (and eventually for high school).

I plan to share the changes I am going to make in my own teaching with other grade level teachers.

What additional thoughts regarding your Architecture of Learning Advanced Course experience would you like us to know?

I am so excited to encourage the other teachers at my school to us Architecture of Learning in all subjects!

Enjoyed it immensely!

I firmly believe a teacher can always improve his/her teaching. Architecture of Learning is a perfect place to start!

I was very humbled by the degree of commitment the other teachers [in this course] have toward helping their students. Architecture of Learning is a wonderful support for this.

I like having more think-through/hands-on to get the ideas of others.

Thank you for putting me on the spot to teach segments. I think that doing this prepared me more for the task ahead, because I realized how unprepared I felt.

Even though it was difficult to do, having us present the material to each other increased my understanding. It helped me see where I really need to focus in preparing to train.

This is revolutionary. I feel out of my league, which means I’m growing. I love it!
