Getting to the Core: Letting Learning Influence Teaching
a Webinar (recorded May 2, 2011) presented by Kevin D. Washburn, Ed.D.
“So what?” That’s the response teachers often rightfully give the latest neuroscientific findings. Knowing that neurons in certain brain regions “light up” when subjects play video games inside an fMRI scanner does little to help us teach with greater effectiveness.
However, neuroscience has uncovered aspects of learning that can and should influence our teaching. This Webinar (presented and recorded on May 2, 2011) explores some of these findings, including the thought processes that empower learning, from sensory experience to memory construction and application of new understandings. Classroom activities that engage students in these core processes of learning are shared, and participants experience these methods as they think through the Webinar material. This high-energy, interactive presentation offers valuable information for teachers of all grade levels and disciplines.
