I agree Michele. The lower grades sometimes feels like a whole different ball game!
I would also like to has out a effective grading system that could be reflected on the report card in some way, because it can be hard to explain at conferences.
How many vocabulary word does Kindergarten complete per unit? I am wondering if their could be some kind of notecard activity for that assessment piece. Maybe it could be completed orally? Students come up and pick a vocab word and then correctly use it in a sentence out loud for the class. If time, record answer on the smart board and you would end up with a silly story!
Confidence is key. After completing small group work and lots and lots of repetition, students should be able to use the skill in multiple settings. They are usually excited to try it on their own!
I said the same thing Michele. I need to incorporate the visual tools into other subject areas. Maybe even using it as an independent task in first grade.
I agree, finding the author’s intended message would be very difficult without further discussion and connection to the text as a reader.
I agree F&F does a great job of including multiple way to go deeper with a text. Vocabulary has been a good focus on the first grade level.
This is very true for our younger students who are still learning the basics of phonics and building towards reading comprehension.
